Awards

    Several awards are given annually at the Annual Meeting of the Academy in May.
There are both monetary Prize Awards and Honorary Awards.
2009 Awards Details and Rules

 

Prize Awards

Academy of Medicine Award in Honor of George H. Whipple, M.D.

Available to medical students at the University of Rochester:
Two prizes of $300 each for the best two papers on any medical subject.

Academy of Medicine Community and Preventive Medicine Award in Honor
of Dr. Robert L. Berg

Available to physicians, physician assistants, nurses and medical students:
$500 for the best paper pertaining to community/public health and/or preventive medicine. Recognizing Dr. Berg's contribution to our community's health, papers that report on propects that have improved the health of our community are encouraged.

Academy of Medicine Library Award

Available to physicians, physician assistants, nurses, dentists and medical students:
$750 for the best paper on the ethics or history of medicine or dentistry.

Academy of Medicine Nursing Award

Available to nurses and nursing students:
$300 for the best paper contributing to the knowledge of nursing in any field.

Academy of Medicine Geriatrics Award in Honor of Carter and T. Franklin Williams

Available to health care professionals in training, for example, those studying for careers in medicine, nursing, physical therapy, nutrition and social work:
$500 for the best paper on geriatric health care which combines medical and social issues.

Academy of Medicine Primary Care Award in Honor of Milton N. Luria, M.D. and William L. Morgan, M.D.

Available to physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and medical students:
$300 for the best paper on any subject pertaining to Adult Primary Care Medicine.

Kluge Trauma and Emergency Medical Services Award

Available to all health care professionals (for example, Emergency Medicine physicians, EMT's, paramedics, nurses) and students in careers involved with the care of or planning for Trauma and Emergency Medical Services:
$500 for the best paper pertaining to trauma and emergency medical services.

Sidney Hillman Health Center Award in Honor of Dr. Robert Burton

Available to physicians, physician assistants, nurses, medical students and social workers:
$500 for the best paper pertaining to occupational medicine or other workplace-related health care issues.
