The Rochester Academy of Medicine welcomes home the 2016-2017 Afternoon Concert Series! We are excited that our East Avenue home will once again be filled with music as always intended by the Lyon family. Music meets history this year in the friendship-themed series. The music selections will reflect how friendship between composers affected their musical careers. Join us in our salon on select Sundays to celebrate the return of the Afternoon Concert Series to our historic home.
This concert will feature music by the composers Schumann and Brahms. Schumann was the older of the two, by 23 years. They met when Brahms was 20 years old and Schumann 43, three years before his death. He could have been Brahms' father, and indeed, he became his mentor introducing him to the musical world. This was crucial for the career of the young Brahms. During the three years before Schumann's death, they became very close friends.
