Ryan Johnson assumed the role of Executive Director in January 2023. Under his leadership, the Rochester Academy of Medicine continues to carry on the rich tradition established by his predecessors, focusing on its mission and vision while staying true to the core values of collaboration, integrity, leadership, and diversity.

Prior to joining the Academy of Medicine, Johnson served as the Director of Operations for the Hospitalist Department at Rochester Regional Health for six years. In this role, he was responsible for ensuring that the nine hospitals within the health system operated at their highest level to best serve the patients of upstate New York. Additionally, Johnson witnessed firsthand the critical importance of collaboration among healthcare providers and systems in delivering care to the community. He sees the Academy of Medicine as an integral part of the fabric of Rochester's healthcare community. Johnson is committed to fostering collaboration across all lines of distinction within healthcare organizations, working to ensure that everyone involved in delivering care to Rochesterians has a voice in shaping how that care is provided.

Johnson graduated from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL, with a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Healthcare Policy and Leadership at the University of Denver.

Born outside Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Seneca Falls, NY, Johnson now resides in Pittsford with his wife, Kalie, and their three children: Reese, Georgia, and McCoy. In his personal time, he enjoys golfing, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with his young family.
